Introduction

THIS WEBSITE OFFERS FAMILY RESEARCHERS, AS MUCH AS IT IS POSSIBLE, A SINGLE REPOSITORY AND REFERENCING LOCATION FOR COUNTY RECORDS ONLINE FOR THE COLONY AND STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA PRIOR TO 1800 [excluding the United States Censuses of 1790 and 1800]. The one exception is to post all freely posted lists of surnames for the various counties in North Carolina prior to 1800.  Another primary objective is to provide researchers with a comprehensive list of free online county, colony and state records in their efforts to locate their kin. Again, it is primarily a respository and referencing site for online county, colony and state records before 1800. The records of the most importance for providing family surnames and information are ones listing people found in the following kinds of lists: [1] taxables; [2] tithables; [3] militias; [4] jurymen; [5] quit rents payers; [6] insolvents tax list; [7] corn tax list; [8] loyality oath takers; [9] men assigned to work crews like road construction and repair; [10] local and state census surveys; [11] voter lists; [12] property tax lists; etc. ALL RESEARCHERS ARE INVITED TO SUBMIT FREE LISTINGS OF COUNTRY RECORDS, OF WHICH THEY ARE AWARE, THAT ARE NOT CURRENTLY POSTED HERE. If we work together on this initiative it will become a vital place for many interested people who are researching on their families in the various counties of North Carolina prior to 1800. Also, more general records, before 1800, that apply to all of the colony or state of North Carolina are welcomed as well.

Another motivation for the creation of this website is that many family researchers hit the wall, so to speak, in the late eighteenth century. Perhaps this site will help many such people find information they might not otherwise locate. Finally, this site reflects my firm belief in the importance of free genealogy with proper attribution for all files researched and posted. I welcome the assistance of people who share these goals.
